I'm interested in the numerous low-status and seemingly insignificant objects, images and arrangements that populate our lives but have little or no aesthetic or design value. I choose to work with insignificant, low-status objects because I have a sense that they might be the most authentic representation of our cultural capital;that of accumulation and consumption with not much thought about why this might be desirable. An example of this interest is the work made with plywood stacking chairs. These chairs, although well designed, have very low status as designed objects and seem to always remain in the periphery. In my opinion, objects like these are the most genuine examples of North American cultural artifacts.
